XS. extra-small. XS. exes.

XS. looking for the little things in past relationships.

Revisiting past relationships with kindness and clarity, I give my xs their imaginary worlds to inhabit. In these universes that I create only for them, they find solace, safety and in turn I see them for who they were.

I trace the timeline to find my very first kiss, taking a pause at each of my beloved ex to remember them as an impressionistic figure made by tiny/extra-small details and memories. I treasure the act of rediscovering a person. Embarking on this journey, I am lead by my driving engine: curiosity. Once in a while, a figure in my memories becomes defined and I am able to see them in a completely new light.

From vague memories long past, I was able to create something new and true.

le jardin du pop-corn | the popcorn garden
oil on canvas, 73 x 54 cm

While it’s not enough to know the depths of a person, first impressions can reveal the tip of the iceberg to you. With a little bit of sensitivity and imagination, I can portray what I felt during the first encounters with my exes. One can in an instant bring the sun into a dreary day, another seems to be a tireless puppy, another finally gives you the serenity of an autumn lake.
I especially remember the one who suddenly makes flowers blossom all around.

vibration sonore sur Vénus | sound vibration on Venus
digital, available as canvas prints, 75 x 50 cm

Imagining the broiling and dense atmosphere of Venus, I can not help thinking of the alteration of the sounds reaching my ears (just before suffocating or melting, depends what happens first…).
In contrast, the earthy sound of the ukulele reassures me and makes me think that everything will be fine.
The stranger and the familiar intertwined, it’s a new love.

danser en silence | dancing in silence
oil on canvas, 27 x 19 cm

What would a cynic do when experiencing a romantic comedy movie moment? It always come unexpected… I realize when two people harmonize perfectly as if dancing, then a kiss in the soft rain could turn the droplets into a thousand little sparks. Please observe this painting with half-closed eyes, as if you were expecting a surge of love. Think of the benevolent warmth, the light, the fantastic joy as well as the fragility of youth.

les fruits espiègles | the mischievous fruits
oil on canvas, 55 x 38 cm

A small parasitic wasp places its offspring on the oak tree, which offers a protective cocoon lined with nutrients. These mischievous, benign treacherous berries do not hurt the tree. This is how they live, but do they have a choice? We humans are not biologically constrained to adopt a unique behaviour, yet we repeat the same relational patterns over and over.

trop de vœux | too many wishes
digital, available as canvas prints, 75 x 50 cm

Something I often think about as a young adult, in our journey to discover ourselves and each other: is that how much we often conform, adjust ourselves to fulfill the wishes of our loved ones. And of course, these wishes, or expectations, they often come with good intention! But if we forget how to care and love each other within reason and respect, or even engulfed by the desire to become Pygmalion, we risk losing a real person in pursuit of an insincere fantasy. We must never forget that we can’t shape a person to our desire.

These moments of vulnerability tell the truth about who we are.

cache-cache | hide and seek
digital, available as canvas prints, 75 x 50 cm

The eternal game of hide and seek with oneself is a game that everyone plays at least once in their life. It is said that crows never forget a face.
I am haunted by the image of this bird waiting for the child to open his eyes and find himself, as if the child already knows it and does not accept this revelation.

le gardien du sommeil | the guardian of sleep
digital, available as canvas prints, 75 x 50 cm

A bumblebee in winter, sleepy in his garden.
In spring he always comes back to the same flower which has also woken up.
Each species with so different lives are thus found, helping each other, giving me the vision of the paths of our lives which constantly cross.
